Vo Dien JP is an online Japanese-learning platform built for students preparing for the JLPT N5, N4, and N3 levels. The project centers on a single, unified learning system that lets students access courses, complete assignments, take mock exams, track results, and monitor their progress all in one place.
RONIU handled solution consulting, system development, UX design, and the specialized management features built around Vo Dien JP's real-world operating model.
The project's challenge
Vo Dien JP needed a platform that didn't just deliver videos and study materials, but also solved a whole set of teaching-side requirements at once:
- Manage learning content by JLPT level.
- Assign precise permissions for teachers and students.
- Organize exercises, quizzes, and mock exams by knowledge group.
- Set time limits and activation schedules for tests.
- Track each student's progress, scores, and exam history.
- Manage classes and course access rights.
- Create a mock-exam environment close to the real JLPT structure.
- Let teachers manage large numbers of students within a single system.
- Keep result data accurately in sync across assignments, courses, and leaderboards.
RONIU's solution
RONIU built Vo Dien JP as a dedicated online learning system centered on three core user groups: administrators, teachers, and students.
1. JLPT course system
Content is organized by level — N5, N4, and N3 — so students can easily reach the exact program they've been granted access to. Each course can include lectures, exercises, mock exams, materials, and answer-walkthrough videos.
2. Exercise and exam question bank
The system supports building a question bank across multiple knowledge areas:
- Vocabulary
- Kanji
- Grammar
- Reading comprehension
- Listening comprehension
- Comprehensive mock exams
Teachers can create, edit, arrange, and reuse questions to build a variety of different tests.
3. Exam builder for teachers
RONIU developed a dedicated exam-creation area that lets teachers build assignments and tests on their own, without touching the source code. The system supports entering Japanese-language content, text formatting, adding images, creating reading-comprehension passages, and managing question order.
4. JLPT-structured mock exams
Exams are organized by knowledge section, with time limits and a scoring mechanism matched to each level. Results are aggregated so students can easily see which areas are still weak and adjust their study plan accordingly.
5. Class management and permissions
Teachers can create classes, add students, and grant access per course. Each student can only use content belonging to their assigned class and level, protecting learning materials and preventing access to the wrong program.
6. Teacher dashboard
The teacher management area provides an overview of:
- Class list.
- Student list.
- Courses in charge.
- Each student's learning progress.
- Scores and test results.
- Exam-taking history.
- Content-completion status.
- Exam timing and activation schedule.
This lets teachers track learning outcomes and support students in a timely way.
7. Student dashboard
Each student has a personal learning space to:
- Access their authorized courses.
- Continue a lesson in progress.
- Complete exercises and mock exams.
- View scores right after submitting.
- Check their learning history.
- Track completion progress.
- Watch answer-walkthrough videos.
- Track their ranking by knowledge group.
8. Learning leaderboard
The leaderboard system is built by level, class, knowledge group, and specific assignment. Results sync directly from exam data, adding motivation to study and helping teachers gauge how well students are absorbing the material.
9. Answer-walkthrough videos
Vo Dien JP includes an answer-walkthrough video area organized by level and exam year. Students can pick an exam, watch the walkthrough video, and keep tracking their progress right within the system.
10. Access protection and control
The system checks login status, course and class permissions, and usage validity before allowing access to content. Students without the right permissions receive appropriate guidance instead of direct access to the learning materials.
Results delivered
After launch, Vo Dien JP has a centralized platform running the entire JLPT teaching and exam-prep process. Teachers' manual workload dropped significantly, while students can study, complete assignments, and track results all within the same system.
The project delivered several standout outcomes:
- Standardized the online training process.
- Centralized management of courses, classes, and students.
- Automated grading and result aggregation.
- Gave teachers visibility into each student's ability.
- Personalized access rights by class and level.
- Increased student initiative and learning motivation.
- Reduced data mismatches across assignments, scores, and progress.
- Built a solid foundation for adding more courses and students in the future.

Technology and approach
The project was built on WordPress combined with the Tutor LMS Pro learning management system, plus custom modules developed in-house by RONIU. Specialized features such as class management, course-level permissions, exam creation, scoring, leaderboards, and learning-history tracking were all customized to match Vo Dien JP's actual operating process.
Conclusion
Vo Dien JP is more than a website offering courses — it's a comprehensive JLPT training and exam-prep management system. The project demonstrates RONIU's ability to study real operational problems, design workflows, and build highly specialized education platforms.
Through this project, RONIU turned a Japanese-teaching operation into a unified digital process, helping the training provider manage more effectively, giving teachers more autonomy, and giving students a clearer, more seamless learning experience.
